This week in our Advent journey we turn our attention to the Gospel of Luke. But before you begin today’s reflection maybe just pause, turn your attention to God and pray the prayer below:
Lord Jesus,
Word at the beginning
God the only Son
Close to the Father’s heart
Let darkness be overcome
By the brilliance of Your light.
Amen
Daily Scripture: John 1:18
Find the above scripture in your bible and read slowly – you might want to read it out loud. You can also find it here.
Advent Quotes
‘Knowledge of God is made possible through the Son…Jesus asserts that he knows God (10:15; 17:25); that knowing God is vitally linked to knowing him (14:7), that this knowing that can be equated with “eternal life” (17:3); and that the world has not known God (17:25)’.
|Marianne Meye Thompson
‘In Jesus Christ, God is known to us; in Jesus Christ, God himself has come to us…It is as if God has reached into his very being and plucked out his own heart in sending Christ to us’.
|Bruce Milne
QUESTION
Take a moment to read and reflect on the reading for today alongside 2 Corinthians 4:6 and Exodus 33:18-23, and just allow the enormity of these claims to sink in.
If true knowledge of God is made known in Jesus, how does he make it known? Maybe write down anything that stirs in you as you do this.
Advent Poem: Here we meet you
When all of time is crushed into a few moments
on the edge of everything
teetering on the brink of a new belief in the future
here is where we meet you, O God.
In the last moments of darkness
before the breaking in of the light
and the cry of a woman
and the birth of love
here is where we meet you, O God.
As silence deepens and the wonder stretches
and the ancient past, becomes our longed for future
and the word of the prophets
slip into fulfilment
here is where we meet you, O God.

Advent Song: I want to know you
Closing Prayer
What manner of love is this!
That we should be called ‘children of God’!
But this is who we are;
sons and daughters of the king,
with an eternal inheritance in his kingdom.
Therefore, may the Spirit of the Son
teach us to live in the glorious freedom
of our adoption,
to the glory of the Father,
our Abba.
Amen.

One Comment on “Advent Week 4 | FRIDAY”
Video was great, watch to the end. Read the closing prayer through a few times slowly and reflect on what it says.
