Welcome to our pilgrimage through the season of Lent! Lent is a season of spiritual preparation that leads and guides us toward the great events of Easter. By observing these sacred seasons we are acknowledging that we live our lives to a different rhythm, a different way of keeping time, one that is orientated around the events of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
There will be a post on here from Monday to Friday that will contain a daily Scripture to read along with prayers, questions, quotes, songs and other bits and pieces. But before you jump into today’s reflection maybe just pause, turn your attention to God and pray the prayer below:
Mighty God of judgement and salvation,
of old ends and new beginnings;
would you guide us in this Lenten season,
through the threatening landscapes of this life
and out into the good inheritance
that you have promised us.
Amen
Daily Scripture: Psalm 46:10
Find the above scripture in your bible and read slowly – you might want to read it out loud. You can also find it here.
Lenten Biblical Character
In Genesis 6:9 Noah is described as a man who ‘walked with God’. We are not told exactly what this meant but it seems to imply a closeness of relationship that is itself marked by a sense of nearness, of presence, and an ability and willingness to hear his voice. Noah is remembered as a man whose life was marked by an incredible and radical obedience to the voice of God in the midst of difficult circumstances.
Lenten Quote
‘Silence will speak more to you in a day that the world of voices can teach you in a lifetime. Find silence. Find solitude – and having discovered her riches, bind her to your heart.’
Frances J. Roberts
Weekly Lenten Practice
One of the ways that we can learn to grow and deepen our walk with God is through the practice of silence. Therefore, today, we want to encourage you to include some silence and stillness in your day: just five minutes will do. Find a good time and place where you will be undisturbed. This might be at the start, middle or end of the day. Whatever feels right. Maybe light a candle. Close your eyes, take a few slow breaths. Be still. You might find it helpful to say a few words, like ‘Father, here I am’ or ‘Father I am yours’. Then just be still – no straining to hear God’s voice.
Try five minutes every day this week to just be with him. You might like to jot down how you found this in a journal.
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD.
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM.
BE STILL AND KNOW.
BE STILL.
BE..
Lenten Song: Restless
Closing Blessing
In your wanderings through
the wildnerness places of this life,
May you come to know the guidance,
provision, protection, and presence,
of the Holy One of Israel
in your midst.
May you discover in this season,
the blessings of the desert,
where false gifts are exposed
and true treasures revealed.
Amen

One Comment on “Lent Week 1 | MONDAY”
Great start to the day. It is a day of “new beginnings” I heard God say as I spent this time with Him. Today I get my first vaccination, not a coincidence, a new beginning. Looking forward to the journey. God’s blessing on you all.
