Daily Prayer
Take a moment before you begin this morning and just slowly and meaningfully pray this prayer.
In fervent cries and whispered groans, hear us Jesus
In unmet needs and lonely spaces, see us Jesus
When overwhelmed and lost in fog, guide us Jesus
When feelings numb and distractions plenty, you love us Jesus!
Amen
Daily Scripture: Hebrews 5:5-10
Find the above scripture in your bible and read slowly – you might want to read it out loud. You can read it here.
Lenten Reflection
The book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus kept the law for us, he paid for what our sins deserved. Jesus became our perfection so that he could become our salvation. If we could become perfectly obedient we wouldn’t need a saviour.
Our response is first and foremost to have faith in Jesus and what he has done for us. He is eternally available to us us, can fully sympathise with our sufferings and is our gateway into the very heart of God.
In today’s passage we are given a glimpse, a privileged insight, into Jesus’ prayer life and are told that he ‘offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death’. Maybe take a moment to sit with this truth and use your imagination to picture Jesus praying in this way. Does anything surprise you?
We are also told that Jesus’ prayers were heard precisely because of his ‘reverent submission’ (NRSV) or his ‘godly fear’ (ASV). What might we learn about the power of prayer from this and how might it affect our own relationship with God?
Lenten Quote
“But it is not for us, or even for Jesus as God’s Son, to assume that the God who ‘can’ answer every request will necessarily be willing to do so. Prayer, so understood, consists not in changing God’s mind but in finding our own alignment with God’s will. Where our desire is not in line with God’s purpose, it is [our desires] which must give way”

Lenten Song: In Christ Alone
Closing Blessing
May the voice of love steady your feet as you follow Him in all His ways
May His kindness be a balm to life’s hard edges and thorns
May His great compassion and mercy fill you with wonder
And may his wisdom lead you to the secret place
May he ever restore to you the joy of your salvation
Amen.

Jesus learned obedience through the things he suffered – that’s incredible – He wasn’t born an obedient robot, He learnt, He felt, He saw, He yielded, what an example and I want to follow that.
Yeah, the bit about obedience stood out to me too. Jesus learned about obedience through the things he suffered and in this obedience he became the source of eternal salvation for all who now obey him. His radical obedience to God led to eternal salvation for all those who now commit to obeying him.
That rendering of Here I stand is so good. I will be listening to this over and over again.
