LENT WEEK 2 | Wednesday

adminLent 20213 Comments

God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
You speak and summon us away
From that which is false, familiar, and faithless,
You invite us to tread a path into the unknown,
Where our barrenness is transformed by your blessing
.
Amen

Daily Scripture: Genesis 17:1-16

Find the above scripture in your bible and read slowly – you might want to read it out loud. You can also find it here.

Lenten Quote

“People are coming to some kind of instrumental faith in a God who they see as powerful, with some connections to Jesus, but a Jesus disconnected from his scriptural roots. They have not been challenged at the level of their deeper worldview by coming to know God in and through the story that is launched by Abraham.”

Lenten Reflection

‘I am struck by the magnitude of the promise that Abraham and Sarah carry –it is quite simply mind-blowing. What must this aged, semi-nomadic traveller have thought and felt on hearing God’s words to him?

Have a read of Galatians 3:6-14 and ponder how the blessing of God, bestowed and entrusted to Abraham has flowed through the history of Israel, been fulfilled in Jesus, embraced the nations of the earth, and even caught up with you and me! Spend some time today in wonder at the kindness and mercy of God at play in the world. Look for signs of it and celebrate.

Lenten Song: Spirit Lead Me

Lenten Prayer

May we find the road that leads to life;
May we take the turns that brings right relationships;
May we pause to accompany others on the way;
And may we journey with God through Lent,
And long for the horizon and dawn.
And the grace.

Closing Blessing

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you,
wherever He may send you.
May He guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May He bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders He has shown you.
May He bring you home rejoicing
once again into our doors.

  1. What struck me today is that God keeps His promises. There is a golden thread of blessing that is woven throughout the tapestry of human history that starts with Abraham, is fulfilled in Jesus and is something we can experience today through the Holy Spirit living in us and through us. The truth that I have a relationship with a constant God who keeps His promises and wants to bless is hugely reassuring, particularly at this time. How He keeps His promises is a beautiful mystery, beyond my ability to fully comprehend. My challenge is to trust Him, not trying to work out what He is going to do and how He is going to do it, but to embrace, experience and recieve His blessing.

  2. Father thank you that I am one of those stars. ⭐️ That I have a deep, rich, expansive history of promise and a future full of hope, light and redemption.
    From promise to promise.

  3. For me Lent is about journey. It’s about finding a deeper appreciation and depth in God. It’s about losing more of me and finding more of Him. It’s about getting excited with Jesus for his kingdom as we walk together. It’s about finding new things each day and continuing to experience awe each time. It’s about going forward, finding deeper faith and looking forward to tomorrow.
