Daily Prayer

Take a moment before you begin this morning and just slowly and meaningfully pray this prayer.

Lord of promise,
how quickly we forget,
how slow to understand,
The path is not the destination,
The desert not our land.
Amen.

Lenten Reflection

Today’s Psalm begins with an instruction to bless God because he is good, and his love is inexhaustible and indestructible. It then moves on to beckon Israel to ‘tell her story’ and it is here that we get into the specifics of what the LORD has done for his people. In verses 17-18 it focuses in on those who, through the consequences of their own rebellion and sin, were suffering but as they turned their attention towards God and cried out to him for help, he rescued them (vv. 19-20).

In any close relationship, it feels good when we are recognised for our kind and loving actions towards the other person, or when we are thanked for our help. Although God loves our worship songs, perhaps there is a particular type of delight he experiences when we acknowledge and thank him for specific ways in which he has intervened in our lives. 

What are the specific ways that God has rescued, redeemed, healed, or delivered you? Begin by thanking God for those experiences. Perhaps then move on to ask if you have opportunities to tell your story of God’s rescue and loving work in your life and how you might do it?
