Shared Practice of Reading Scripture

This week we are exploring the shared practice of reading Scripture and so each weekday we will post a short blog to help you stay focused. The helpful advice that Caroline gave us at the beginning of this was to…

  1. Set a goal and make a commitment
  2. Choose, how, when, and where you will spend time reading the Bible
  3. Go for it
  4. Reflect with others how you got on

Caroline also suggested different ways of reading: the first is to just start with one verse a day; the second is to read a short section; and the third is to try and read one or two chapters a day. Below are some suggestions for each of these approaches

VERSE – Matthew 5:4

SECTION – Matthew 5:13-16

CHAPTERS – Matthew 6

Before you begin

But before you begin to read, just pause, breathe deeply and few times and maybe pray the following prayer.

Living God,
I thank you for your living word and your living presence.
Thank you for revealing yourself to us that we might know you more,
become more like you,
and work together with you for the healing of the world.
Speak to me now for I am listening.
Amen

REMEMBER! YOU READ IN THE PRESENCE OF THE ONE YOU READ ABOUT!
